RIO RANCHO — Team Broadcasting, Inc. President Joe O'Neill proudly announced today that award-winning broadcaster Robert Portnoy has joined ESPN Radio 101.7 The TEAM.
A 15-year veteran of professional play-by-play, Portnoy will lend his knowledge, talent and love of the game to University of New Mexico baseball broadcasts this spring. This is the fourth season The TEAM has broadcast Lobos baseball.
Portnoy's array of sports broadcasting experience will bring ESPN Radio 101.7 The TEAM another respected New Mexico voice — one that the locally owned and operated station will utilize in numerous ways.
"We strive to get the best people to provide the best radio content for our listeners" O'Neill said. "Robert is that type of person and broadcaster. Having Robert is a great addition to 'The TEAM' and will provide top-notch play by play for the successful Lobos Baseball program."
It's a reunion of sorts for Portnoy and ESPN Radio 101.7 The TEAM. Portnoy helped launch the radio station in 2008, serving as the original host of ESPN Radio 101.7 The TEAM's daily local sports-talk program, 'The Locker Room.'
Said Portnoy: "It's a tremendous opportunity to be the voice of Lobo baseball and return to a great station like ESPN Radio 101.7 The TEAM. The baseball season begins next week and I can't wait to get started."
Portnoy, a Stanford grad, has called baseball at every minor league level. Most recently, he was the voice of the Albuquerque Isotopes from 2006 to 2012. Portnoy has also called professional basketball, college athletics including football, basketball, baseball and volleyball.
The former professional golfer is just as polished as a host, interviewer and speaker. Portnoy lives in Albuquerque with his wife and two children.
ESPN Radio 101.7 The TEAM, the No. 1 sports station in the state, is New Mexico owned and operated. It hit the air in 2008 thanks, in part, to the support of investors and lifelong sports fans Scott and Laura Grady, and Turner and Margaret Branch.
